Three
Card Poker Glossary
I put together some of the 3 Card Poker terminology
you might hear while playing at a casino or online. It is a fairly
simple game but to the novice player some of these terms could
easily be
confusing.
- ante
- Usually a diamond or circle on the poker table, this is the
bet you must place to receive your cards and is part of the "competition
mode" between player and dealer.
- bluff
- In Three Card Poker this just means you stay in on hands when
you should fold.
- Brit Brag
- Same as CASINO BRAG.
- casino brag
- A variant of Three-Card Poker in which the dealer needs ace-queen
to qualify. Also known as Brit Brag.
- fold
- To drop out of play.
- house edge
- The advantage the casino has over the player at any given game.
(Usually expressed as a percentage)
- pair plus
- Usually a circle on the card table, this bet is completely
independent of the Ante/Play bet. Pair Plus pays solely on the
three cards dealt to the player and is not competitive with the
dealer.
- play
- Usually a rectangle or circle on the poker table, the Play
bet must be equal to the Ante bet and calls for a showdown against
the dealer's hand.
- push
- A tie where neither the casino nor the player wins the bet.
- qualify
- The minimum hand that a dealer must achieve before the competition
can begin or your play can continue. In Three-Card Poker the
dealer must have a Queen high hand or better to qualify.
- three-card brag
- A player-banked game dealt from one deck, a complicated variant
of poker involving a lot of blind betting; three-card poker rankings
are used. Sometimes called three-card poker. A variant of three-card
brag called flush is played in some casinos. It's all very complicated,
so be sure to find out all the rules before sitting down to play.
- vig
- See VIGORISH.
- vigorish
- House (casino) take, that is, the percentage it earns from
offered games. In poker, TIME COLLECTION or rake. Often shortened
to vig.
